Morris Selected by Erie BayHawks in NBA G-Legue Draft

Rockville Centre, N.Y. (Oct. 23, 2017) – Men's basketball alumnus Jaylen Morris, who graduated in 2017, was selected in the second round of the NBA G-League Draft by the Erie BayHawks. Morris was the 41st overall pick in the draft on Sunday (Oct. 22).

"It felt great to be drafted," said Morris. "I tried to contain all of my excitement but I couldn't help but smile. I worked very hard to get here and will continue to work even harder."

In 2016-17, the guard started all 29 games for the maroon and white, leading the team in minutes (36.8 per game) and rebounds (7.0 per game) and was named All-Conference First Team, All-East Region Second Team, and All-Metropolitan First Team.

For many fans of Molloy basketball, the Erie BayHawks will be a familiar name. The Lions' all-time leading point scorer, John Petrucelli, spent last season with the team and is currently in camp as a member of the Lakeland Magic. Morris, who played with Petrucelli in 2013-14, will use the advice and experiences to help him as he carves his own path in the G-League.

"I spoke with John and he has given me a lot of advice on what to expect going into training camp."

The Erie BayHawks opened up camp yesterday, which will continue until the 10-man opening day rosters are set on November 2. Erie kicks off its season on November 3 against Grand Rapids Drive. For Morris, the plan is to continue the work and training that has gotten him this far.

"My goal is to make the team," explained Morris. "Playing for Molloy has prepared me a great deal. The coaches have pushed me to become the best basketball player that I can be."
