Albany, N.Y. (Nov. 11, 2017) – The Molloy men's basketball team opened up the 2017-18 campaign with a 70-51 loss against Le Moyne College at the Saint Rose Tip-Off Classic in Albany, N.Y. In the effort, junior
Curtis Jenkins (Farmingdale, N.Y.) scored a game-high 23 points, going 8-of-13 from the field.
Jenkins also pulled down a team-high seven rebounds and nabbed four steals in the effort. Sophomore
Nick Corbett (Staten Island, N.Y.), who went 5-of-6 from the foul line, totaled 13 points while adding four steals of his own. Sophomore
Josh Dennis (Valley Stream, N.Y.) finished with eight points for Molloy while redshirt freshman
Justin Caldwell (Roosevelt, N.Y.) scored seven in his debut for the maroon and white.
The Dolphins jumped out to an early lead, 11-4, but an eight-point run from Jenkins and Corbett brought Molloy back within one, 13-12. Le Moyne responded with a run of their own to go up by their largest lead of the half, 31-16, with five minutes remaining in the opening frame. From the foul line, the pair of Corbett and Jenkins brought the Lions within 13 at the half, 37-24. The two combined for 22 of the team's 24 first half points.
The maroon and white continued to chip away at Le Moyne's lead, as Corbett sunk a three-pointer to set the score at 50-41 with just under 10 minutes remaining. The Dolphins, however, were led by a 12-point second frame from Tyquan Rolon, and Le Moyne eventually went ahead by as much as 21, 70-49. Corbett was sent to the line with 27 seconds remaining, sinking both foul shots to round the score at 70-51.
The team continues its appearance at the Saint Rose Tip-Off Classic tomorrow in a bout with the host at 2:00 p.m.
