Lieutenant Commander Kyle S. Matthew, U.S.N. born and raised in Malverne, New York attended Molloy College for two years. Prior to Molloy College he attended the University of Maryland and Nassau Community College. In 1999, he graduated with a bachelor of arts degree in Criminal Justice. Kyle was one of the inaugural members of the men’s soccer team at Molloy where he was the starting goal keeper for two seasons. Kyle’s career records include fourth in shutouts (3), fifth in saves (87) and goals against average (2.20) and sixth in save percentage (.731). He is seventh in the single season record books for saves (68) and saves against average (1.65) in 1997 as well as tenth in save percentage (.773).
After graduation, Kyle enrolled in Officer Candidate School. Following his commission he attended flight training at NAS Pensacola, Fl and Meridan, MS earning his Naval Aviator Wings in 2001. He attended EA-6B Fleet Replacement Squadron training with Electronic Attack Squadron VAQ-129 before being assigned to the Black Ravens of Electronic Attack Squadron VAQ- 135. During this assignment he made two WESTPAC deployments on the USS NIMITZ.
In 2005, Lieutenant Commander Matthew was selected for Naval Postgraduate School. In 2006 he graduated with a master’s degree in Defense Systems Analysis. Upon graduation he was assigned to Fleet Fixed Wing Composite Squadron VC-6 in Patuxent, Maryland. He was trained to fly the Shadow-200 UAS which he later deployed to Mosul, Iraq in support of Joint Counter Insurgency Operations for eight months. Upon return to the United States he reported to Test Pilot School. After graduation he reported to Air Test and Evaluation Squadron VX-20 where he currently serves as the RQ-4A Global Hawk Maritime Demonstration Program Officer and test pilot.
Lieutenant Commander Matthew has over two thousand hours and three hundred carrier landings in nine models of prop and jet aircraft. His awards include the Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Navy and Marine Corp Commendation Medal, Navy Unit Commendations (2), Sea Service Medal, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal and Global War on Terrorism Medal.
Currently, Kyle is now in Strike Aircraft Test Squadron VX-23 flying and testing the new EA-18G Growler.
He resides in Solomons, Maryland. Kyle has three children, Ranger (13), Rylee (10) and Reese (8).
