Omar Kasi grew up in Brooklyn, New York and was an All New York City basketball player at Xavier High School. Upon graduation from Xavier High School, Omar was one of the most highly recruited guards in New York City. He began his basketball career at Molloy College in 1996 and during his four years he became one of Molloy’s all-time greats on the basketball court.
Omar’s athletic achievements include the following Molloy College career and season records that he holds: career free throws made (421), career assists (613), career assists average (5.6), career steals (272), free throws made (127 in 1999-00), season free throw percentage (.850 in 1997-98), season assists (177 in 1999-00) and season assist average (6.1 in 1999-00). Among Omar’s other career achievements are the following: second in points (1498), second in scoring average (13.7), second in free point field goals made (191), second in three point field goal percentage (.363), second in free throw percentage (.807), second in steals average (3.2), sixth in rebounds (423) and eighth in field goals made (443). In addition to being top in the following season categories, Omar is second and fourth (113 in 1997-98 and 100 in 1998-99) and second and third in free throw percentage (.826 in 1998-99 and .774 in 1999-00). Omar was named NYCAC First Team All-Conference in 1999 and Second Team All-Conference in 2000. He led the NYCAC in 1997 with 2.7 steals per game and in 1998 finished second in the conference in assists and steals per game and free throw percentage. A year later, he was third in the conference in the same statistical categories.
In 2000, Omar was named the Nassau County Sports Commission College Athlete of the Year and was the recipient of the prestigious Haggerty Award which is given out each year by the NYS College Sports Writers Association. He is currently ranked 11th all-time in the NCAA Division II record books for career steals (272).
In 2000, Omar graduated from Molloy College with a bachelor’s degree in Business Management. He has been involoved in several successful business ventures. He has bought and sold numerous laundromats and started his own contracting company to renovate homes and buy and sell property in New York. He also co-owned a Curves Fitness franchise in Manhattan for two years.
Today, an Omar remains a Brooklyn reside, and is a real estate investor and manager in partnership with his father.
