From 2004-08, opponents had a tough time trying to find the back of the net when Ettore Morelli was between the pipes. In his senior season with the Molloy College men’s soccer squad, he was named the East Coast Conference Goalkeeper of the Year (2008), while he was tabbed the ECC Rookie of the Year in 2004. In addition during his senior campaign, he was selected for the Molloy Student Government’s “Mr. Molloy” award. He was named to an All-ECC Team three times in 2004, 2006 and 2008. His 13 career shutouts are the most in program history, while his career goals-against average of 1.37 ranks second all-time. Morelli also ranks second all-time in career save percentage (.787) and career saves (306).
Morelli’s strong 2008 campaign helped the program earn its first-ever East Coast Conference Championship. He was a member of the first-ever Molloy men’s soccer squad to play in the NCAA Division II National Tournament -- the first such appearance for any of Molloy’s men’s athletic programs. During 2008, he was ranked nationally in save percentage, goals-against average and saves per game.
His five shutouts are tied atop the record book for the best in a single season (2008), while his 0.80 goals-against average in 2008 and his .833 save percentage in 2007 are the second-best during a single campaign. In an October 19, 2006 contest versus the University of Bridgeport, Morelli made 18 saves, which is the program record for an individual game.
Morelli was one of the 2008 recipients of the East Coast Conference’s John Smillie Jr. Award. This award was created to celebrate student-athletes who overcame personal or physical challenges and hardships to pursue their intercollegiate athletic careers. He was strong in the classroom as well, earning East Coast Conference Scholar-Athlete Honor Roll praise in 2008.
Morelli graduated from Molloy College in 2009 with a Bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice. He is currently a Deputy Foreman for Tishman, an AECOM company, supervising a crew of 20 laborers working on the construction of the WTC Transportation HUB. They are tasked with keeping the site clean and free of debris, maintaining a safe and secure environment for all contracted trades.
Morelli went on to earn his NSCAA State coaching license and LIJSL “D”, “C” and “B” coaching licenses. He also has his NSCAA State, Regional and National, as well as New York State ODP, goalkeeper training certification licenses.
