MENS LACROSSE DROPS HEARTBREAKER ON SENIOR DAY TO C.W. POST
ROCKVILLE CENTRE, NY- Senior Brian Tempone (Merrick, NY) scored two goals and senior Kevin Meekins (Levittown, NY) notched one goal on senior day for the Molloy College men's lacrosse team but the Lions fell to the Pioneers of C.W. Post on April 19. The 13-12 loss drops the Lions to 4-8 overall and 0-5 in the ECC, while the Pioneers improve to 9-3 and 2-2.
The Pioneers began the game with four straight goals but Meekins put the Lions on the board with 4:37 left in the first quarter. Just as time was about to expire in the first, junior Jeffrey Flandina (West Islip, NY) snuck one past the Pioneers goalkeeper and cut Molloy's deficit to two (4-2). A minute and a half into the second quarter, C.W. Post went ahead by three (5-2). However, Tempone scored a goal with just over eight minutes left in the second and began a 4-0 run by Molloy to take their first lead of the game (6-5). The Pioneers regained the advantage after they recorded two goals (7-6) but junior Keith Galante (Plainedge, NY) evened the score at seven with 37 seconds left till halftime.
Molloy and C.W. Post traded the first two goals of the third quarter but took a 10-8 lead off goals by Tempone and junior Mike Ryan (Farmingdale, NY). C.W. Post fought back and placed the next four goals on the scoreboard to retake the lead (12-10). However, Galante and junior Mike Salisbury (Freeport, NY) each netted a goal to tie the game at 12 as 6:28 remained on the clock. The Pioneers would score the last goal with 1:12 left in the game to take the 13-12 victory. Senior Rob Humann (Hicksville, NY) recorded 21 saves in his 60 minutes between the pipes.
The Lions will play their last game of the 2008 season on Saturday, April 26 against Dominican College. The ECC game will begin at 4:00 PM and will be played at Burns Park in Massapequa, NY.
